Heraeus Amba is still the only British UV lamp manufacturer to attain the ISO9001 Quality System accreditation for both the design and development, and the production of UV curing lamps, metal halide lamps and power supplies. We use only the top quality raw materials, and our manufacturing processes are continually updated in line with the latest technology.

History

Founded in 1982 as an independent company to supply replacement lamps, Amba started manufacturing UV lamps in Banbury in 1988, and from 1989 started to manufacture transformers for UV lamp power supplies. In 1991 Metal Halide UV lamps were added to the range of Amba-made products, and in 1994 we achieved the ISO9001 accreditation. In 1999 Amba Lamps Ltd was acquired by the very successful international speciality lighting company Heraeus Noblelight, and became Heraeus Amba Ltd. 2002 saw the move into a new purpose built production facility in Banbury.

Health and Safety

UV lamps contain small amounts of mercury and users must therefore comply with WEEE and with HSE guidelines on the use and disposal of mercury. A business user of UV lamps is classified as a producer of waste under the WEEE regulations and is therefore responsible for the safe disposal of used UV lamps.

As they contain mercury, almost all UV lamps are classified as "Dangerous Goods" by IATA when being shipped by air and must therefore be packed by someone trained in dangerous goods handling. They must also be shipped by an approved operator and accompanied by the correct declarations.

Heraeus Amba Ltd can help you comply with these guidelines in a number of ways:

  1. We offer our customers within the UK a free collection and disposal service for used UV lamps. UV lamps are hazardous and cannot be disposed of in normal industrial waste.
  2. We can supply information and advice on Health & Safety guidelines for lamp handling and mercury spillage.
  3. All our despatch and administration staff are fully trained in the correct IATA Dangerous Goods procedures to ensure that Heraeus Amba operates fully within the regulations.
  4. We can offer help and information on safe working practices when using UV.
